Mark Gamble, and co driver; Steve Link are heading to Ludlow this weekend to compete on the Event Signs Woodpecker Stages, at the wheel of their new Subaru Impreza N11.
Off the back of the crew’s last great outing in the Swift, on the Mini Epynt stages, where they finished a brilliant 8th overall, they are ready and raring to go and to try out something different.
This will be the 4th different Subaru that Gamble has used on as many events. Having hired all the past cars, it has always been tricky to learn and get to grips with them each time. So the duo are hoping to get some good mileage under their belts in the new purchase, improving their pace stage by stage. The pair have showed some great pace on every 4WD outing, with a fantastic 7th overall on the Red Kite Stages earlier in the year. Gamble is no stranger to the Woodpecker, having started it for the last 4 years, so their aim is to be mixing it with the BTRDA regulars at the sharp end as quickly as possible.
The Cusco backed pair are planning an assault on either the BTRDA or Mixed Surface Championships next year in the car, but are yet to decide on which direction to take. The Kumho shod Impreza will be blue, and wrapped in a very similar livery to the Swift, running at car 21, seeded amongst a plethora of regular BTRDA Group N contenders.
“I’m really looking forward to being back out in 4wd machinery again, and having a good go at the sharp end of the BTRDA field. We’ve bought this car to have a go at either the BTRDA or the Mixed Surface Championships in next year. I’ve been in 3 different Subaru’s in the past, and spent each event adapting to the car and not been able to make the most of it. So it will be great to get settled into the new car, gaining confidence and improving pur pace on each outing."
The Woodpecker Stages is based at Ludlow Racecourse, comprising of six stages. Including the famous Wales Rally GB Stage; Radnor, as well as 2 runs of Haye Park & Bringewood, with a run of Hopton in the middle of the day.
